Job Description:

CH2M HILL's West Region/Environmental Services is looking for a dynamic person to join the firm as an Environmental Project Engineer/Hydrogeologist in our Spokane, WA office. This position will be involved with site investigations (monitoring well installation design and construction, hydrogeologic data collection and interpretation, soil and groundwater sampling, etc.); CERCLA/RCRA process; remedial investigations; groundwater remediation methods; and technical writing. Tasks will include a mixture of field work and office responsibilities.

Key Duties:




Manage large, complex tasks and small projects.


Provide support to industrial and federal clients to meet project goals and objectives.


Assist in the preparation of technical reports to clients, state agencies or other stakeholders, including evaluating data, performing flow calculations, writing sections of the report, and preparing geological maps, figures, and cross sections.


Lead or assist in field investigations (i.e., drilling, sampling and routine testing) or observation of field activities.


Participate and support safety "incident free" operations in the office and in the field; conduct field work using H&S tools and meet H&S requirements.


Oversee subcontractors in the field or in the office.


Interact with the client, staff, and regulatory agencies.


Complete tasks within schedule and budget,


Provide routine communication, both written and verbal, to appropriate staff on the status of project tasks.


Obtain and/or maintain professional certification as appropriate, and participate in development of professional publications and conference papers.


Provide support in writing proposals and other business development activities.

Basic Qualifications:

Qualified candidate will have:




B.S. degree in Geology or Hydrogeology OR Environmental or Civil Engineering.


6 years progressive experience with environmental site management projects.


Requires general knowledge of federal and local environmental regulations.


Ability to complete 40-hour HAZWOPER training.

Preferred Qualifications:

In addition to the basic qualifications, the ideal candidate would meet the following preferred qualifications:




MS degree in Hydrogeology, or Civil or Environmental Engineering.


6-10 years experience in environmental consulting.


Familiar with fundamental geological concepts, practices and procedures.


Self-motivated, team-focused, and possess a solution-based work approach.


Ability to independently evaluate, select, and apply standard techniques and procedures for geologic and hydrogeologic analysis; develop investigation approaches, work plans, sampling and analysis plans, and subcontract scope of work.


Possess the attributes of a strong consultant (team player, spoken and written communication skills, respect for clients and stakeholders, eagerness to learn and grow, self starter that takes initiative and has a service mentality).


Ability to demonstrate experience with Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.


Ability to demonstrate a safety-oriented work ethic and willingness to learn and follow specific site operational procedures.
