Title Water Operator


Job Description:

CH2M HILL's Fort Irwin office is in need of a Certified Grade 2 (State of California) Water treatment operator. Performs a variety of tasks in the operation and maintenance of a Water treatment plant including maintenance of equipment, quality control/testing and day-to-day activities on an assigned shift. This position typically holds an intermediate level water treatment certification.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Operates treatment facilities to control flow and processing of water
• Diagnoses operating problems and performs necessary corrective action during work shift
• Monitors gauges, meters, and control panels
• Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings and test results to determine process adjustment requirements
• Operates valves and gates either manually or by remote control
• Starts and stops pump, engines, and generators to control and adjust flow and treatment processes
• Maintains shift log and records meter and gauge readings
• Collects samples and performs routine laboratory tests and analyses
• Performs routine maintenance functions and custodial duties
• Makes operating decisions in absence of supervisory personnel
• Understands and carries out oral and written directions
• Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work
• Performs other duties as required

Working Conditions:

The work area can involve exposure to inclement weather, loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical shock and vibration, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, air borne particles, toxic and explosive gases, infection and blood-borne pathogens. Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, twist and bend at the waist, turn, kneel, squat, raise arms above shoulder height, grasp, reach, perform repetitive hand movements and fine coordination to work on equipment, have vision sufficient to service equipment, and have hearing in the normal range with or without correction. In an 8-hour shift must be able to transport self across the facility, ascend and descend stair steps, lift objects up to 50 pounds from floor level to waist height, push a push-type mower; wear and use appropriate safety equipment. **Will be required to work overtime and be on-call on a rotating basis with other staff.

Basic Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will have:
- 1-2 years experience operating Water treatment plant.
- Basic Familiarity with all aspects of the operations of this type of Water treatment plant.
- Able to use computers, good knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel (spreadsheets).

Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to the basic qualifications, the ideal candidate would meet the following preferred qualifications:
- Certified Grade 2 (State of California) Water treatment operator.
- Experience operating Tertiary process, and mechanical skills a plus.
